SCHENECTADY (AP) -- A railroad tourism company that operates a rail line in the Adirondacks is planning to develop an upscale passenger train service between New York City and Lake Placid.
The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports that officials with Chicago-based Iowa Pacific Holdings and the Adirondack Rail Preservation Society announced Thursday an agreement to work together to develop the service.
Their plan includes using the former New York Central line out of the Utica area to run restored Pullman cars to take passengers from Manhattan to the popular Olympic village of Lake Placid.
Iowa Pacific operates the Saratoga and North Creek Railroad, along with a half-dozen other tourism lines in the West.
The Adirondack Rail Preservation Society operates seasonal tourism trains to Old Forge, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid
