GEDDES -- Detectives are investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting that has left a Town of Geddes man in critical condition, according to Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh.

At about 1:00 AM on Tuesday morning, Walsh says in a media release that Town of Geddes Police and Sheriff's deputies went to 1024 Grand Avenue to investigate reports of a man being shot and injured.

20-year-old Thomas J. Devine, who resides at the Grand Avenue address, suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.  He was sent to Upstate University Hospital and is in critical condition.

According to Walsh, deputies discovered that Devine and one of his friends began playing around with one of Devine's rifles and it went off and shot him in the chest. His friends immediately called 911 and provided first aid until police and rescue personnel arrived.

Walsh says in the release that Sheriff's detectives are conducting an investigation.
