SYRACUSE -- A person was arrested and a loaded weapon was recovered on Monday night after Syracuse Police say they responded to a complaint of a suspicious person.
At about 11:05pm, Syracuse Police say that Officer Jason Wells responded to South Geddes Street near Putnam Street after 911 received a call about a man in the area who reportedly had a gun hidden in his waistband.
Police say that when officer Wells arrived he saw a man walking in the 300 block of Putnam Street who fit the description of the reported suspicious person.
Police say the man was stopped by Officer Wells but attempted to run. When Officer Wells tried to detain the suspect, a struggle ensued and wells recovered a loaded 9mm firearm. .
The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Daniel Riggs Jr. of 112 Rowland Street, briefly escaped from Officer Wells but was taken into custody by other officers after a brief foot chase, according to the release.
Riggs Jr. was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administraion. He was sent to the Justice Center and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Syracuse City Court.
