The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently gave its top safety rating to more car seats than ever before.

Unfortunately, the government warns that 73-percent of parents and caregivers install car seats incorrectly, and they only protect your child if they're installed properly.

If you're not sure if your seats are being used properly, find help here.

"A lot of times there are just so many little details to look at that it gives just some great piece of mind they come here and know that it's done properly," says safety expert Emilie Crown.

David Strickland is an administrator at the National Highway Safety Administation. Strickland says, "Not being properly belted in can be the difference between a child having no injuries and a child frankly having very severe injuries."

Test results released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are providing a boost for booster seats.

Ann McCartt, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, says boosters are a better job that they did a few years ago.

In 2008, the institute could only find 10 booster seats worthy of its "best bet" rating. Today there are nearly 50, including 12 models introduced this year like the Graco Turbobooster and the Harmony Highback. The institute these and others allow the lap belt to fit tightly over the thighs.
