SYRACUSE -- Syracuse School Board members rejected a proposed change to controversial school accounts Wednesday. The individual school accounts, or principal accounts, have been under scrutiny since an audit found an apparent mishandling of funds by former Fowler principal Laura Vieria-Suarez. Board members rejected a proposal to lower the maximum amount allowed in these accounts from $7,500 to $5,000. The proposal will go back to the Policies Committee.
These accounts already need prior approval. Principals also must attend a training session each year offered by the fiscal services department.
Laura Vieria-Suarez is now a principal on special assignment at the district's central offices.
