SYRACUSE -- Syracuse University is asking their alumni, faculty, staff and their board of trustees for some financial help. They are looking to raise $2 million for students who are facing hard economic times. The campaign will go for the next 45 days. Since the program started, they have seen $25,000 already come in and are confident they will be able to raise the full $2 million. The campaign is called “Syracuse Responds” and is an initiative set up to offer fast help for students and families feeling the hardship from the current global economic crisis.
Students who are feeling the pinch are encouraged to stop by the financial aid office and ask for the grant money. There is no limit to what each student could get. The distribution is based on an 'as needed' basis. Students could see anywhere from $1,500 to upwards of $7,000 in grant money. The financial aid office also wants students to stop by and check their options when it comes to paying for school. They say 80% of the time, they can say yes when it comes to getting students loans or grants to pay for school. The university doesn’t want any student to have to leave school because of money issues.
