Everdina and Gail Tooker traveled to the nation’s capitol in 1963. When they got there, they had no idea they were about to see history happen before their eyes. The, soon-to-be, mother and daughter-in-law went down to see Martin Luther King, Jr speak. What they saw was his famous “I Have a Dream Speech.” Today, the two sat together and watched history once again.

Everdina, who is 95, said she never thought she would see a day like today. She goes on to say how amazing it is and that in the short time from the “I Have a Dream” speech, we, as a country, are able to see an African American lead our nation. Her daughter-in-law, Gail, agrees. She thinks this is an amazing and exciting time in American history.

Both women have their eyes glued to the TV. They understand the draw for the millions who ventured to the capital, but they say, this time around, watching this all unfold on their TV, in the comfort of their home, is exactly where they want to be.

Now, they have high hopes for the 44th President of the United States, including ending the wars and being peace to our country.
