SYRACUSE -- Central New York is way ahead of the season in terms of snowfall totals. The region is up to approximately 107 inches already, which is almost double what we normally have received by now.
The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works put a plowing plan in place after the blizzard in 1966. They clear the main roads and hospital routes first, then head to the side streets. The DPW admits that because of the snowfall and illegally parked cars, they're behind schedule in terms of snow removal.
Wednesday the DPW leadership met with Syracuse Common Councilors to talk about snow removal procedures. "We haven't had enough down time from plowing and sanding the streets to be able to concentrate on removing the snow," said Jeffrey Wright, Commissioner of Public Works. "So, we're not getting at it as quickly as we'd like, we're chipping away at it," he said.
The DPW is asking people to read posted streets signs so crews can get through and clear the roads.
