SYRACUSE -- If you are planning to attend or participate in this year's commencement ceremonies at Syracuse University, you'd better plan on more time to get to the Carrier Dome, and get though security to enter the Dome.  Syracuse University says it is expecting a big crowd for the May 10th event because this year's graduating class is the largest to take part in commencement in recent years.

In addition, Vice President Joe Biden is serving as commencement speaker, and his presence will add more interest in the ceremonies as well as an increase in security. SU says all of its students and those from SUNY ESF taking part in commencement must present a valid SU or ESF ID to get into the Carrier Dome.. Everyone entering the Dome will have to pass through a metal detector.

Because of the big crowd and traffic it will generate getting to the Dome, as well as the security checks required to get into the Dome, SU advises graduates, families, guests and members of the campus community who plan to attend to allow plenty of extra time for arrival.

Doors to the Dome will open at 7:15 am, and the student processional begins at 9:30 am.

Space permitting, free parking is available in SU's Harrison, Lehman, Manley and Waverly lots, and the University Avenue and Booth garages. Parking in West Campus and Quad lots will be restricted to permit holders.
