SYRACUSE -- The fire at the Line-X Protective Coatings store in the Regional Market is under control and the firefighters have pulled away.
Firefighters stayed outside of the building because part of the roof had looked like it might fall in, and they were being careful in case there was any toxic smoke. Line-X's business includes spray-on truck bed liners.
The Syracuse Fire Department is on the scene of a fire at the Line-X Protective Coatings store in the Regional Market complex, which is located in the 2000 block of Park Street. We are told that firefighters are performing what are called ‘outside operations' and not going inside the building. There may be concerns of hazardous chemicals inside the structure.
The thick gray and black smoke billowing out of the building is causing visibility problems for area motorists, and traffic heading to and from the nearby Carousel Center mall is being diverted.
Also, the Park Street off-ramp from Interstate 81 northbound is closed due to those same traffic concerns.
