Program offers prizes for kids

DEWITT, ONONDAGA COUNTY -- Officers from agencies all over Onondaga County are on the look-out for kids out riding their bikes.... and they've got prizes for the kids who "ARE" following the rules.

The "Get Caught Wearing a Helmet" campaign kicked off Tuesday morning.  That means kids, who are spotted wearing a helmet, can get a gift certificate for a free kid's meal from Friendly's.

Police officers involved say it's nice to be able give out rewards instead of punishments.

In Onondaga County, anyone under 18 is required to wear a helmet while biking, skating, or skateboarding.
