Disco Inferno fundraiser draws crowds

It's Saturday night and for the few hundred at the State Fairgrounds, they have a fever, dance fever. Facing a frenzy of potential cuts, the Southwest Community Center is looking for some creative ways to raise money, and disco dancing is a sure fire hit. Tammi Mangus says, "Not only are we getting our money's worth, but it's also awesome it's a fundraiser, which I didn't even have any clue."

A Tony Manero look alike from Saturday Night Fever even dropped in to drum up some support. Organizers of Disco Inferno designed the event after one of the most successful disco events in the entire country: The World's Largest Disco based out of Buffalo. That event is being held on the same night as Syracuse's, and sold more than 7,000 tickets.

Organizers hope to make this an annual event and help the Southwest Community Center. Co-Promoter Tom Tarry says, "They're being aggressive. They see the potential issues coming down the road, so they wanna get a head start on that so we're starting this event really before those issues take place."

Organizers say they'll know on Monday just how much money was raised for the South West Community Center.
