JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Just feet from Fort Drum, police are trying to put the pieces together after two bodies were found in an apartment complex in Leray Tuesday afternoon.
Police said they are waiting to release the names of the two men until their families are notified but we have learned that the two were coworkers and roommates in their twenties, and were found when police checked their house after someone called to report them missing.
The Jefferson County Sheriff said he had ruled out murder suicide and believes it was an isolated incident. "We're still running down some leads but again we want to emphasize that we feel the general public isn't in any danger at all,” said Sheriff John Burns.
The Meadows Apartment complex is home to many Fort Drum soldiers who live off post and on Tuesday night the neighbors had a lot of questions about what happened.
The Sheriff would not confirm or deny if the two men were soldiers but did confirm that criminal investigators from Fort Drum are assisting at the scene. Police did not reveal much about the crime scene or possible circumstances, but said some progress had been made. "We have one person right now we are questioning and we are still trying to track down some leads to locate another subject,” said Sheriff Burns.
Burns also said police were currently searching for that other subjects but held off on calling him a suspect. "I would have to say he's probably a person of interest,” said Burns
