TOWN OF CLAY, ONONDAGA COUNTY -- The Sam's Club store on State Route 31 in Clay is closing down soon, leaving 122 employees without work. The store is set to close January 22.
The regional General Manager says the company has worked to improve the location's financial performance, but despite the effort, the Sam's Club was losing money.
There will be a job fair next week to help workers find out about potential openings at area Walmarts or other Sam's Club locations. The current employees will also receive 90 days of pay, and those eligible will receive accrued vacation and severance pay. Employees will also be able to keep their benefits coverage through April 10.
Sam's Club is offering a full refund to members who want it, or you can shop at the store on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse.
The Clay location opened in 1993. The company is a division of Walmart, which operates 111 stores, clubs and distribution centers in New York.
