VESTAL, NY (AP) -- Binghamton University President Lois B. DeFleur is retiring after 19 years on the job.
DeFleur, 73, said in a statement Wednesday she would retire at the end of July for personal reasons, including her plans to marry this summer and her mother's fragile health.
DeFleur said she had discussed retirement with the university council in the fall. She put the plans on hold after SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher called for an independent investigation of the university's athletic department.
Six players were kicked off the men's basketball team in September, one after being arrested on drug charges. Athletic director Joel Thirer resigned, and basketball coach Kevin Broadus was placed on indefinite paid leave for NCAA recruiting violations.
