SYRACUSE --

Syracuse Police have arrested two people following a robbery at a diner on the city's north side early Tuesday morning.

According to a police report, 29-year-old Albert Sherman, Jr. walked into Barbieri's Italian Diner on the 300 block of North Salina Street around 6:20 a.m. Police say Sherman threatened a waitress and demanded money before fleeing in a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Around 7:00 a.m., an officer spotted the same vehicle on South Clinton Street. Two men got into the Jeep, and the officer began chasing them. After a short chase, the Jeep crashed in front of the Southwest Community Center.

Police say Sherman tried to run from the crash scene but was eventually caught by police on West Onondaga Street. Sherman’s passenger was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.
