Dozens of employees at NYSEG and RG&E are losing their jobs. A spokesperson from Iberdrola USA says a total of 140 jobs are being cut across the Northeast. About 40 of those jobs are from New York State Electric and Gas, and another 40 are from Rochester Gas and Electric.

Clayon Ellis, of Iberdrola USA, says "reducing the work force is a difficult decision and one that we have not taken lightly - we understand the impact that it has on our people, families, and our communities - but it is an essential step given today's economic conditions."

Ellis says the effects of the economic slump and increasing costs of operations are to blame for the layoffs.
