This past Tuesday, February 2nd, was Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow at Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania. That, my friends, means six more weeks of snow and cold according to weather folklore. Then again, Phil sees his shadow most every year. The last time he didn’t was back in 2007. Phil’s forecasting accuracy falls well short of ours in the CNYcentral weather center, correct only 39% of the time. Time will tell what Mother Nature holds in her cards and deals us.

This week at a ski area near you…. .Greek Peak is putting on a rail jam this Friday as part of a series. Even better, for those who like to mix business with pleasure, the CNY Board Meeting – Business to Business Networking Event is this Tuesday at Greek Peak. It’s a great way to make connections that doesn’t involve a golf course. Suit and tie not required.  Saturday night from 4-9pm is another family fun night at Brantling.  Big discounts on all your family needs for some good old fashion fun on the slopes.  This Sunday you can catch the Super Bowl right here on WTVH CBS-5. For those who want to spend the day on the slopes, there is a huge annual party to celebrate the big game at Bristol Mountain. Bristol is also looking to give away a season pass for next winter. All you have to do is sign up for text message updates to your phone from them. Text 42227 to BristolMT and it could be you!

Skiing and boarding in Central New York just got 50% less expensive. You need to check out the Half Off CNY Skiing Package that went on sale this week. These days, everyone is looking for a bargain. Here is the dirt on the deal. For only $80 you get a certificate, worth over $160. It will get you a single lift ticket at each of four local ski and snowboard areas for use the rest of this winter. Here is your chance to ski Toggenburg Mountain, Dry Hill Ski Area, Song Mountain and Four Seasons Golf and Ski Center.

Lastly but most importantly, I’d like you to join in and help me “Save The Peaks”.  On February 20th, Labrador Mountain will be hosting a celebrity ski race that will pit teams from local media outlets. All proceeds from the day will benefit breast cancer research locally with the Carol M. Baldwin Research Fund. Looking to go down against yours truly are personalities from Y94FM, B104.7, News 10 Now and even a couple brave souls from CNYcentral. Good luck goes out to CNYcentral President and General Manager Chris Geiger, and especially to Meteorologist Matt Stevens. It looks like my trip out west to Utah for a warm up is about to pay off for a great cause! Happy trails…
