SYRACUSE -- Workers at P&C could soon have new jobs. Starting Friday, Tops Markets will be offering jobs to workers in P&C stores.

Workers were supposed to have meetings Thursday to hear about wage offers from Tops, but those meetings were cancelled. The United Food and Commercial Workers Union says right now, it is still in negotiations with Tops management. Union representatives say those offers include information about things like starting wages and vacation time.

The UFCW says Tops should start making those offers Friday, but not everyone will hear right away. Representatives from Tops will be traveling to different stores across the state over the next few weeks to make offers.

When reached for comment, Tops spokesperson Katie McKenna said "Upon completion of the review of the Penn Traffic locations by Tops and the FTC, Tops will be extending employment offers to those Penn Traffic employees in the stores that will remain in operation. It is Tops' policy not to comment on specific personnel issues or wage information."

The UFCW also has new information for its members about stores in the North Country. Tops asked the union whether or not there are any union buyers for stores in Watertown, West Carthage, Gouverneur, Canton, Potsdam, Massena or Ogdensburg. UFCW responded Thursday, saying there is not likely a union buyer for those stores. That means if Tops does decide to sell the stores, whichever company buys them will probably be non-union. Price Chopper had originally bid on four North Country stores.
