The family of a young Chittenango woman is getting $3.2 million from the state.
The settlement decision comes seven years after Sara Wellmon died when her car went off a bridge and plunged into the Erie Canal in Kirvkille. Her car went up the incline of a concrete barrier placed on the bridge and flipped over.
Sara Wellmon's mother, Diana Wellmon, told CNYcentral she hopes the Department of Transportation will take down the barriers in the future.
The $3.2 million dollars will be put into an annuity for Wellmon's daughter, who was only 7 months old when her mother was killed.
The Wellmons had asked for $40 million dollars.
