HARTSDALE, NY -- One of the lives claimed by the weekend's severe weather in the Northeast was that of a hospital administrator from Central New York.

Authorities in Westchester County say 58-year-old Brendan McGrath of Auburn was visiting his daughter in Hartsdale, a suburb of New York City, when a large tree fell on the roof of his car. McGrath's wife was also in the car but escaped from the passenger side.

McGrath was vice president of operations for Community General Hospital in Syracuse. The hospital released this statement Sunday:

The Community General Hospital family is deeply saddened by the tragic news of Brendan McGrath's passing. He was a kind and esteemed colleague, professional and friend of many. His tremendous knowledge of health care and his caring personality will truly be missed by the Community General Hospital family. He was an important member of our leadership team and well respected by all who knew him.

Community General Hospital extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Power outages continued following the violent weekend storm that claimed lives in both Westchester County and on Long Island.

By Monday morning, Consolidated Edison had fixed over half of its 173,000 outages in New York City and Westchester County. In 1985, Con Ed recorded nearly 111,000 outages during Hurricane Gloria.

On Long Island, outages closed or delayed 18 schools. Upstate, several thousand customers were without power.

In Orange County, roads flooded by rain and melting snow were reopened.

Both fatalities occurred Saturday.

Suffolk County police say 73-year-old Julia Hughes was killed by a falling tree while walking to her car in Bay Shore.
