NORTH SYRACUSE -- Teachers in the North Syracuse Central School District are agreeing concessions to save jobs. The teachers union agreed to a lower pay raise over the next two years, so 19 teachers can stay on the job.

The deal also means teachers will forgo sabbaticals for the next two years. It freezes all salaries for teachers who run clubs and those who coach.

Of the 850 teachers, nurses and counselors, in the union, 82% approved the concessions.

The deal should save the district about $1.3 million. The district has been considering cutting about 114 jobs. Other cutbacks will come through staff retirements.
