Budget delays in Albany could delay road repairs in many communities across the State.

The State is holding more than $300 million in funds dedicated for highway repair. Cazenovia Highway Superintendent Tim Hunt says the longer the budget is on hold in Albany the greater the chance road repairs won't get done. " Our window to do work is very short. We have the summer months to work.  If they pass a budget in late August, we can't go out and spend money we don't have," he says.

The rising cost of asphalt is another problem. It is up more than twenty percent this year and Hunt says that has a lot of towns rethinking plans to pave roads. " We've got to cut back, way back, on paving because of the cost of asphalt," he says.

To try and save money on paving costs, some towns are looking for cheaper alternatives like crushed stone.
