The AARP wants to make the streets of Syracuse safe for everyone and Thursday, the group began its push for 'complete street' legislation.

The goal is to make New York streets walkable statewide.

This is important for many senior citizens who need to be able to walk to drug and grocery stores.  But they are not the only ones affected.  Families with children and mothers pushing baby carriages or strollers are also affected by the condition of the sidewalks and curbs. 

New York State ranks 3rd in the country for pedestrian fatalities for people over the age of 65.
