WASHINGTON (AP) -- A showdown looms in the Senate early next week on the effort to impose new regulations on the financial industry.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid isn't waiting for the results of bipartisan negotiations. He's scheduled a key test vote Monday on financial reform and that drew immediate fire from top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell. Reid insists it's time to move forward.

The vote could test how unified Republicans are in opposing the bill.

Bipartisan talks aimed at hammering out some of the final language of the bill are continuing.
