AUBURN (AP) -- State officials plan a series of community forums to discuss large truck traffic on local roads through Finger Lakes communities.

The first session is tonight in Aurelius, near Auburn in Cayuga County.

The outreach by the state Department of Transportation and the governor's office comes after local residents were angered by the news in April that the state wasn't moving forward with proposed regulations to reduce large long-haul truck traffic on rural roads in the Finger Lakes.

Communities such as Aurora, Owasco and Skaneateles (skin-ee-AT'-luhs) have expressed concerns for years about the impact long-haul garbage trucks are having on local roads, the environment and quality of life.
