SYRACUSE -- A local grocery chain has announced a recall of beef purchased at one of its area store locations.

Wegmans has issued a statement saying that they are recalling ground beef which was bought at their store Onondaga Boulevard in Syracuse. The recall affects three types of ground beef dated June 12: the 95 percent beef, 90 percent beef, and 80 percent beef.

Wegmans stresses that the recall only applies to packaged ground beef, and only from the store on Onondaga Boulevard. The company says the recall “does not affect ground beef sold at any other Wegmans location and it does not affect Wegmans organic ground beef, Food You Feel Good About ground beef, or irradiated fresh ground beef.  It also does not affect any other ground beef product, including patties, sliders or ready-to-cook products like meat loaf.”

Wegmans says the recall was made when it was discovered that an incorrect cleaning product was used on a meat grinder at the store. They say approximately 64 pounds of the meat had been purchased before the recall went into effect.

The company says that no illnesses have been reported as a result of the recall, and customers who purchased the meat can return it for a full refund.

Customers who have questions or concerns about this recall can contact Wegmans’ consumer affairs department at 1-800-WEGMANS, ext. 4760, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., or visit www.wegmans.com.
