(AP) -- A northern New York farmer says someone made off with his prized heifers in broad daylight when he was away for a couple of hours on an errand.

A neighbor reported seeing two trucks with cattle trailers ascend the couple's winding driveway and then speed away about 15 minutes later. Conrad Frennier and his wife  were away for a last-minute doctor's appointment in Plattsburgh. They found 12 of their best young cows had been stolen from inside the barn.  The estimated value of the cows is $15,000.Five of the missing heifers had been shown by the Frenniers at the Clinton County Fair.

State Police ask anyone with information to call the Plattsburgh barracks at 518-563-3761.
