HARRISON (AP) -- Police say a New York woman is in critical condition after driving drunk the wrong way with her 4-year-old son in the back seat.

Harrison Detective Sgt. Edward Lucas said Leticia Chavez of Port Chester suffered a broken neck and back, and a broken leg that may have to be amputated. Her son had a broken leg.

Her car collided with a minivan in Harrison on Sunday. The three minivan occupants suffered bumps and bruises.

The sergeant said there were two bottles of alcohol in Chavez's car, one empty, the other just opened.

Police arrested her on charges of driving while intoxicated with a child, vehicular assault, child endangerment, all felonies, and misdemeanor DWI.

The name of her attorney was not immediately on record.
