Movie studios are hoping the 3D craze keeps going strong, but it may be waning already.

A new report from the LA Times claims ticket revenue for 3D movies has steadily dropped since James Cameron's "Avatar" first wowed audiences in 3D.

When "Avatar" premiered, it took in 71 percent of its revenue in 3D ticket sales over opening weekend. The recent "Despicable Me" only took in 45 percent from 3D tickets. Theaters can charge anywhere from $3 to $5 extra for a 3D movie.

Some fans have complained about headaches from 3D movies, or trouble getting kids to keep the glasses on throughout the entire movie.

But, fans aren't the only ones complaining. Several influential directors took shots at 3D movies at the recent Comic-Con International in San Diego. Even legendary film critic Roger Ebert claims you should hate 3D movies.
