SKANEATELES (AP) -- Concerns about watershed contamination were raised by two recent spills in the Finger Lakes.
Last week, the state Department of Environmental Conservation began an investigation at Twin Birch Dairy Farm in Skaneateles after workers there reported a manure spill. DEC is unsure how many gallons of manure got into a brook that leads to Owasco Lake, which supplies drinking water to the city of Auburn.
The DEC also investigated a spill of asphalt after a truck crashed in Skaneateles. It was determined that the 20-by-40-foot pool of spilled fuel and asphalt didn't do any harm to the Skaneateles Lake watershed, which supplies pure, unfiltered drinking water to Syracuse.
