SYRACUSE -- Health experts and nutritionists – you might want to look away.

Burger King is showing off its newest creations, and they are packed with calories.  The Huffington Post describes the Pizza Burger and Meat Beast Burger in great detail, offering a sneak peek at what you can’t yet buy at your local chain. The article lists the Pizza Burger, a 2,500 calorie behemoth, as having four quarter pound beef patties topped with pepperoni, mozzarella, and marinara sauce - all on a 9.5 inch sesame seed bun. These burgers are not on the market yet, but could be available at a restaurant near you very soon.

However, that’s not to say you can’t find some greasy options at Central New York fast food restaurants.  For instance, just a small Triple Whopper value meal at Burger King weighs in at 1,800 calories, complete with 101 grams of fat and 2,140 mg of sodium.  And if you want to go the healthy route, a grilled chicken salad will still set you back 490 calories.

This isn’t exactly great news for a country trying to cut back.  For some people, they're okay with it.

"It's quick," Charmain Anderson of Syracuse said, "You don't have to prepare it, somebody already prepared it for you--and it's cheap."

Meanwhile, plenty of people said they just don't eat at fast food restaurants--period.

"It's unhealthy," said SU Grad Student Jonathan Gooch, "I just know how many calories and how much fat is inside.  I just don't go with it."

The typical adult who is of an average size and has moderate physical activity needs between 1,600 and 2,400 calories per day.

According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this month, no state met the Healthy People 2010 obesity target of 15%. In fact, the CDC reports in 2009 almost one fourth of all New Yorkers were considered obese.  And while that may sound bad, Mississippi topped every state in the U.S., with an obesity rate of 34.4%.

Registered Dietitian Maureen Fauler of Crouse Hospital says eating a burger every once and awhile is okay, but reminds everyone to do it in moderation.

Also, leave a comment below and tell us that you think. Do these ultra-high calorie meals go too far? Or are they good business for an industry right in the middle of the obesity debate?
