Grass fed cattle for health conscious consumers

FABIUS -- Former State Senator Nancy Larraine Hoffmann is one a handful of local farmers raising grass fed cattle in New York State.
The cattle on her Fabius farm graze on pesticide free grass. Hoffmann says raising grass fed cattle is better for the environment and better for consumers since grass fed beef are not fed hormones or antibiotics and have a third less fat and more vitamins than commercially processed beef.
Health conscious consumers are creating a small but growing market for locally grown grass fed beef. Hoffman says that is good news for smaller farms like hers which often struggle to compete with much larger commercial ones. "There isn't much of a profit margin, that's why having a grass fed movement picking up steam is such a boom," she says.
