NIAGARA FALLS (AP) -- The nation's economy is still struggling, but upstate New York's top tourist destination is managing to gain ground during the recession.
According to the latest information from the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation, tourism is up year-to-year by 8 to 10 percent. That's based on increases in hotel occupancy and the number of visitors to local attractions.
Tourism and Convention Corporation President and CEO John Percy says the group invested in its largest advertising campaign ever earlier this summer, targeting six different markets as well as local markets in western New York.
Percy says good weather this summer has also helped, while the changes in U.S. passport regulations have kept more people on the American side of the Falls.
