CORTLAND -- A local man is facing charges, accused of several recent burglaries in the Cortland area.

Christopher Davidson, 23, of 10 Pomeroy Street, is facing a slew of charges stemming from a several week investigation by Cortland police.

On Tuesday, police got a tip about where they could find some stolen property. They later went to interview Davidson, who tried to take off out the back door of his house when police got there. He was handcuffed and then tried to take off again. He was later taken into custody near a wooded area along the Tioughnioga River behind Clinton Street.

Police later recovered several stolen items from Davidson's home including electrical equipment, computers, G.P.S. Systems, jewelry and play stations. Police also say they found metal knuckles, marijuana and a canister of pepper spray.

Davidson is now charged with criminal possession of stolen property, unlawfully possessing a noxious material, unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and escape. He was arraigned in Cortland City Court and remains locked up at the Cortland County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.

The investigation continues and more charges will likely be filed. Police are still trying to figure out who the stolen property belongs to. If you have any information about this case or are missing the items recovered, contact Cortland police at (607) 758-8308.
