3 day event on S U quad
SYRACUSE --
There's a housing project sprouting on SU's quad, but it's not anything that anyone would want to live in, permanently---and that's the point.
The Shack-a-Thon is sponsored by the SU/ESF chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and students from 12 different organizations will be living in the dozen one room homes. Justin Cole, who's coordinating the three day event, says it's to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing in this community, and around the world.
The student chapter built the walls, roof and floors, but there's no heat, electricity or water in the shacks, though Cole says the student residents tend to decorate them up.
After the Shack-a-Thon is over, the 'homes' will be donated to area habitat residents for children's play houses.
