SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse New Times Best of Syracuse awards issue has selected Matt's Memo as the Best Blog.   Matt's Memo is written daily by NBC 3 Anchor and Managing Editor Matt Mulcahy.  Matt originated the blog in 2005. It was the first blog written by a member of the Central New York media.

(Read the Matt's Memo blog Matt wrote about winning the Best Blog award. He was left wondering - what else is there?)

His daily insight covers a range of topics from the latest news events, media or the rest of daily life.  Matt's Memo includes a range of observations and commentary about our community and the country.  It can be serious as it breaks down complex issues in the news or amusing as it pokes fun at the lighter side of life. Comments from readers of the blog are used on NBC 3 News at 5:00 and CW 6 News at 10:00.   The video version called Matt's Morning Memo airs each more on Today in Central New York on NBC 3.

Matt Mulcahy is a 5 time Emmy nominated journalist. Among the categories for which he has been nominated include Best News Anchor in New York State, best writing and best promotion.  He won an Emmy award for Best Documentary for a special he anchored and produced following 10th Mountain Division troops in Bosnia.

Matt's Memo has been honored previously as Best Blog by the Syracuse Press Club.  The blog was also the foundation for a production called Matt's Memo: A Reading from the Book of Blog which won a Edward R. Murrow award for best writing from the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

You can read Matt's Memo on CNYCentral.com.  It is also distributed through e-mail, Facebook and Twitter.
