ALBANY -- Senator Charles Schumer has some advice for New Yorkers unhappy about the more intrusive screening procedures at airports:  Just deal with it.

If you're flying in or out of New York State this year, you may see some longer than usual lines at the airport.

There are a couple of reasons for this.  First, we are always under a heightened level of Security here in New York.  Second, there is anger over new more intrusive screening procedures implemented by the Transportation Security Administration.

Commissioner John R. Gibb, of the NYSDHSES heads up the newly consolidated Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for New York State.

"The National Department of Homeland Security wants us to keep our eyes peeled for anything strange or out of place.  The Federal Government's See Something Say Something program was first developed here in NY for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority – and you may remember one example of its effectiveness.  People want to know what's going on and it was an alert tee-shirt vendor in Times Square who reported it to the police," says Gibb

Rules about what you may carry on to an airplane have changed since 2006. Gibb recommends visiting the TSA website for the most up to date information.
