Snowy weather hurting Christmas tree sales

CAZENOVIA, MADISON CO. -- December's record snowfall is hurting local Christmas tree farmers.
Matthew Critz, of Critz Farms in Cazenovia, says all of the snow is keeping customers away.
"Last week it snowed four days. This week we are on our fourth day of snow again. So every day it snows people are less likely to come because people are less likely to drive when it's snowy out," he says.
Critz says the lack of sales the past two weeks is a problem because Christmas tree farmers only have a short period in which to sell their trees for the year.
"This is it. This is our four weeks out of the year. So if somebody is in this industry and this is what they do, this is a real critical time," he says.
There is still one more weekend before Christmas, and Critz and other farmers are stocking up on trees and hoping the weather comes through.
"There is always hope. The hope is that Peter Hall is right and tomorrow it is going to be thirty degrees and and there isn't any snow, and people will do a lot of last minute sales and it will turn out to be a great season," he says.
