DEWITT -- If you plan on heading to the gym after the holidays, you’re not alone.

Ting Vallejos, a personal trainer at Gold's Gym in DeWitt, says a lot of people have the same New Year’s resolution: To build a new body in the New Year.

"You packed it on before Christmas, or you packed it on during the holiday… a lot people come here for weight loss to get leaner maybe to put on more muscle tone," he says.

Looking good isn't the only reason people are pumping iron these days. Health clubs like Gold’s Gym say a lot of people joining gyms these days have very specific fitness goals in mind.

"A lot of people here want to do triathlon training toward the summer season, so they come to the gym. They make a New Year’s resolution to themselves. They say ‘You know what? I want to triathlon, so I'm going to start training’," Vallejos says.

But you don't have to run a triathlon to get in shape. You don't even have to join a gym. Ting says when it comes to good health, the formula for living a healthy life is pretty simple.

"Watch your diet and be more active. That's it," he says.
