SYRACUSE -- The man accused of killing a toddler in a drive-by shooting in November has been ordered to submit a DNA sample that may connect him to a separate crime.
Saquan Evans appeared before Onondaga County Court Judge John Brunetti Friday morning. The District Attorney's office needed Brunetti to order a DNA sample to compare to evidence found on a revolver found hidden near the home of Evans' grandfather on McKinley Avenue in Syracuse.
Police believe that revolver was used in gang-related shooting during a card game on Shirley Drive in Syracuse on November 7th. Evans faces four counts of attempted murder in that incident, which came to light after Evans was arrested for the murder of 20-month-old Rashaad Walker, Jr. on November 28th.
The toddler was killed as Evans allegedly fired a gun at a van. Prosecutors believe Evans was targeting the child's father in yet another gang related incident, in retaliation for the shooting that killed 19-year-old Kihary Blue two days earlier.
