Another miracle attributed to her
On this Feast Day of Mother Marianne Cope, Franciscan nuns in Syracuse are hopeful that she's a step closer to being declared a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. Sister Grace Dillenschneider says there's a second miracle, forwarded to the Vatican for authentication. The first, involving a Syracuse teen, was accepted and Mother Marianne was beatified, the step before sainthood.
Mother Marianne was raised in Utica before coming to Syracuse, where she helped found and then ran St. Joseph's Hospital, before going to the leper colony in Hawaii, where she worked with Father Damien, already declared a saint.
In the Syracuse Diocese this Sunday, all masses mention Mother Marianne, with the Bishop celebrating a mass and dedicating his homily to her at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Sunday morning.
