Syracuse DPW plow crews have started rotating 12 hour shifts for round the clock coverage. On Tuesday night plows were out salting the roads and trying to get ahead of the storm closing in on Central New York.
"As the heavy stuff starts coming in, they're ready to roll," said Syracuse DPW Commissioner Pete O'Connor.
While plows were preparing to keep the roads clear, Pat DeLorenzo was preparing to stay off of them.
DeLorenzo stopped at Tops Market in Salina to pick up groceries and joked that she was prepared to not leave her house for days if necessary.
"The basics are - just stay home. Clear out your driveway best you can and just have what you need in your home. There's nothing more you can do," said DeLorenzo.
Some people weren't too worried about the storm, just the thought of having their kids home from school and cooped up in the house. Cynthia Coan wanted to have plenty of food and snacks ready in case they were needed.
"I've got four kids hanging out at home playing PS3 so I want to make sure I've got everything covered if they're going to be home tomorrow and if I get stuck home tomorrow," said Coan.
Syracuse's DPW Commissioner said that if heavy snow is falling during the Wednesday morning rush hour, drivers should be ready for delays as the plows do their best to keep up with it.
Commissioner Pete O'Connor also asked city residents to make sure their car was legally parked. Illegally parked cars can make it difficult or impossible for plows to drive down some city streets.
