SYRACUSE -- A two-family house was damaged by fire on the east side of Syracuse Thursday morning.
Fire officials say a fire broke out in a house on the 600 block of Beattie Street around 10:30 a.m. We’re told that the fire started in a first floor bedroom of the structure. Most of the fire damage was contained to the bedroom, but the rest of the apartment did suffer some smoke and water damage.
The upstairs apartment was not damaged. Officials say the fire was under control about 5-10 minutes after firefighters arrived.
Officials say three or four people were in the building at the time of the fire, but everyone made it out safely. No injuries have been reported.
A fire chief on the scene spoke to CNY Central about the difficulties snow buildup caused fire crews as they maneuvered their trucks into position to fight the fire.
“With this fire, our biggest issue as you can tell with the snowbanks, they are making the streets a lot narrower. I know the DPW is doing their best to get them kicked back, but it makes it difficult for us to get all of our vehicles right to the building that’s on fire,” said Mike Chura, Syracuse Fire Department District Chief.
No word yet on the cause of the fire. An investigation is underway.
