MALONE, NY -- The former head of a northern New York charity has pleaded not guilty to felony charges accusing her of spending nearly $100,000 in grant money on herself.
Nancy Reich of Paul Smiths pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Franklin County Court to grand larceny, falsifying of business records and offering false instruments for filing.
The 64-year-old Reich was accused last summer in a state comptroller's audit of improperly spending funds granted to Malone-based Community Action Agency. Known as ComLinks, the charity provides food and housing in parts of the Adirondacks and other North Country communities.
The audit said while serving as ComLink's chief executive officer, Reich spent organization funds on such luxuries as massages, a golf club membership and extended hotel stays during out-of-town conferences.
She was fired last fall.
