In 1975 Al Kryger started thinking about ways to grow Greek Peak, his ski resort in Cortland County. Kryger wanted to make it family friendly, year round and knew he would need something to make it destination that people would be willing to travel for. In December 2009, his plan moved forward when Kryger openedHope Lake Lodge and Cascades Indoor Waterpark. Now, Kryger and Greek Peak have announced another major addition. Construction is already underway on a $20 million adventure park and conference center.

Kryger said he hopes people will start looking at Greek Peak as a twelve month destination and not just a ski resort.

The Adventure Center will have four zip lines, an alpine roller coaster and a year round tubing center. Greek Peak says the Adventure Center will open on June 1st. The conference center will be able to seat 400 people. Overall, the project is expected to bring between 50 to 70 jobs. The resort is already a huge shot in the arm for the regions economy and point of pride for many neighbors

"My wheels are turning to get people up to visit because it's such a great opportunity for everyone and their families as well," said Kara Young.

"We put a home up and when you have this kind of development and this kind of attraction going in - it can only make the home more valuable," said neighbor Chet Zahirnyi

$30 million of Greek Peak's loans are taxpayer backed by the USDA's Rural Development Program. State Director Jill Harvey says the project is not considered high risk and is backed by a strong business plan.

"So many concepts get talked about, maybe funded and never come to be. They all just sort of vanish. This has not vanished. It's a great psychological shot in the arm because people see we have great stuff here," said Harvey.

Greek Peak's expansion plans don't stop with the conference center and Adventure park. The company is already looking at adding more rides games and year round attractions. Kryger says one possibility would be a NASCAR style racing attraction.

Officials with Greek Peak Mountain Resort announced a $20 million expansion project that will include the creation of 50-70 new jobs.  Plans for the project include an outdoor Adventure Center, conference facilities and the base of the mountain and improvements to the ski area.

The Adventure Center is expected to open this June and will include a ropes course, zip lines, a mountain biking park, an alpine coaster and a year round tubing center.  The conference center will open in September.
