Old movies, memorabilia & movie trivia

Old movies---the kind that don't get shown on tv, and cannot be found in rentals---are the reason vintage film buffs from all over the world come to Syracuse in March.  This year's Cinefest is no exception.

Among the rarities to be shown:  1931's 'Music in the Air' in which Gloria Swanson actually sings.
1938's 'Kentucky with a young (44) Walter Brennan and Loretta Young.  1941's "Hellzapoppin," considered the forerunner to Mel Brook's comedy style.  And newly refurbished films---over forty in all, including silents accompanied by live piano music.

Gerry Orlando, who's coordinating the Thursday - Sunday event, says it is based at the Holiday Inn, Electronics Parkway but will also include screenings on the 'big screen' at Eastwood's Palace Theatre.  There is also a vintage memorabilia auction hosted by movie critic Leonard Maltin, and dealers with movie posters and more.
The Cinefest website has full schedules, details and more movie trivia.
