Father of first 'internet' missing case speaks
Chat rooms, 'sexting', and keeping children safe from online threats, all the topics at a day long conference titled 'Predators, Porn and the Law.
Marc Klaas, whose daughter was kidnapped and murdered is a keynote speaker. The California case made headlines in 1993, with Polly Klaas the first missing child to be posted on the internet. Her father has since become a child advocate, trying to make sense of the growing electronic communications world that poses an ever-growing threat to children's safety. Klaas says it all starts at the kitchen table, because there's no way parents can prevent children from seeing, or being impacted by the many forms of communication that stretch far beyond the family computer. He says talking about threats is a start, but legal professionals and the general public have to do their part, too.
Klaas is the keynote speaker, at 3pm. The conference is open to all (parking at the Irving Garage.
