Volunteers needed to pick up trash

It's a busy month of Onondaga County's recycling agency, OCRRA, with plans for the end-of-the-month Earth Day Cleanup.

This Friday, April 15th, is the deadline to sign up for the neighborhood cleanup.

OCRRA asks that you register so they can tally how much litter is picked up along roadways and in empty lots and fields.. You also get stickers to put on the litter bags collect, so the trash is disposed of, for free.

Some 2,000 people have already signed up to cleanup in Onondaga County---and their goal is to beat last year's collection record: 71,240 pounds of trash.

Sarah Stewart, recycling specialist with OCRRA, says that there's also something new for the Blue Bins: You can now recycle paperback books at curbsite. Stewart reminds, though, that books in good condition should be offered first to area libraries (many have spring collections) or to not-for profits which can re-use them.

The deadline for the spring cleanup signup is Friday, April 15th.  www.OCRRA.org  or 453-2866 will take your registrations.
