It looks like Central New York is bucking the trend when it comes to driving on fumes.

With gas prices in many areas topping $4 per gallon, more and more drivers on the West Coast and other areas are delaying going to the gas station until the last moment possible. In many cases, they end up running out of gas. According to KTLA, the CW affiliate in Los Angeles, the Automobile Association of America has seen a 12.9% increase in calls from drivers who ran out of gas on the roads around Southern California. Local news agencies in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Dallas, and Tulsa are reporting similar trends.

CNYcentral spoke with a representative from AAA here in Central New York. Diana Dibble says drivers don't seem to be stretching their tanks to the limit here. Calls to AAA for out of gas assistance in our area actually dropped by 9.8% in March compared to the last two years.

While this weekend is the Easter holiday weekend, AAA will not do another survey on holiday weekend driving plans until Memorial Day in May.
